An open letter to the women and children of Ukraine

To all of the women and children of Ukraine —


	My dears. Throughout history, women have borne witness to the catastrophes of humanity. Our sisters before us have stood the tests of war and time as the ones who keep our families, our communities and countries together while our men fight for our just causes.

	The strength and determination that women have displayed throughout history is now being brought to fruition through the women of Ukraine. Womanhood has never been easy anywhere around the world. Adversity and persecution the common thread that has been woven into the fabric of the sisterhood. 

	Now, once again, women will sacrifice for their families and themselves in Ukraine and beyond, as no one can emerge from conflict unscathed. In their homes that are reduced to rubble, in their hospitals that are burdened beyond capacity, in their bomb shelters filled with chaos and fear, in their parliamentary sessions — women of Ukraine will continue to stand and fight as only women can; by supporting their families, each other, the wounded and dying, to preserve their lives, their identity and their country, no matter the cost. 

	The world must act to affirm Ukraine’s sovereignty and denounce the invaders of that great nation. This aggression against Ukraine must not be tolerated. It is a time for action, not just words, though words are important. It is a time for resolve and steadfastness in the face of evil and hatred. It is a time for hope and for love for our fellow people around the world. No one should live in fear, though it is not a weakness to be afraid. No one should live without hope and freedom, and hope and freedom should be availed to all. No one should live without love, even in the face of evil. 

	With compassion in our hearts, and within my own, I offer my hope, my love to all of those in Ukraine, to the women who fearlessly stand up and defend their way of life and country and families. Know that right will be done and that good will triumph over hate. And know that the  love of millions of people is being sent to you all. Long live Ukraine — forever free!

	

	

Усім жінкам і дітям України —


 Дорогі мої.  Протягом усієї історії жінки були свідками катастроф людства.  Наші сестри перед нами витримали випробування війною та часом як ті, хто тримає наші сім’ї, наші спільноти та країни разом, а наші чоловіки борються за наші справедливі справи.

 Сила та рішучість, які жінки виявляли протягом історії, тепер реалізуються через жінок України.  Жіночність ніколи не була легкою в усьому світі.  Негаразди і переслідування — спільна нитка, яка вплетена в тканину сестринства.

 Тепер жінки знову жертвуватимуть заради своїх сімей і себе в Україні та за її межами, оскільки ніхто не може вийти з конфлікту неушкодженим.  У їхніх домівках, які перетворені на руїни, у їхніх лікарнях, які перевантажені до неможливості, у бомбосховищах, наповнених хаосом і страхом, на своїх парламентських засіданнях — жінки України продовжуватимуть стояти і боротися, як можуть тільки жінки;  підтримуючи свої сім’ї, один одного, поранених і вмираючих, щоб зберегти їх життя, свою ідентичність і свою країну, незважаючи на це.

 Світ має діяти, щоб підтвердити суверенітет України та викрити загарбників цієї великої нації.  Не можна терпіти цю агресію проти України.  Це час дій, а не просто слів, хоча слова важливі.  Це час для рішучості та стійкості перед обличчям зла та ненависті.  Це час надії та любові до наших співвітчизників у всьому світі.  Ніхто не повинен жити в страху, хоча боятися не є слабкістю.  Ніхто не повинен жити без надії і свободи, і надія і свобода повинні бути доступними для всіх.  Ніхто не повинен жити без любові, навіть перед обличчям зла.

 Зі співчуттям у наших серцях і в своїх серцях, я дарую свою надію, свою любов усім тим, хто в Україні, жінкам, які безстрашно встають і захищають свій спосіб життя, країну та сім’ї.  Знайте, що правильно буде зроблено, і що добро переможе ненависть.  І знайте, що любов мільйонів людей посилається всім вам.  Хай живе Україна — вічно вільна!
